Homestead Grays won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Reading Pretzles at Shea
Stadium pulling it out in their last at bats, 2 to 1.
The deciding run was scored by Homestead in the bottom of the 9th. Eddie
Murray banged out a single. Bruce Bochte stepped into the batter's box and
he drew a walk. Bake McBride then doubled making Homestead the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration. Both teams finished the game with
7 hits.
Wayne Garland(2-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Guy
Hoffman(0-1) suffered the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter
giving up 2 hits and 1 walk.
