Jim Slaton pitched a complete game at Arlington Stadium as the Durham Bulls pulled
off a dramatic comeback beating the River City Rascals by the count of 4 to 2.
Durham had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 4
base hits. Leon Roberts led off the inning for Durham when he stroked a
single. After an out was recorded, Bobby Valentine came up and he banged out
a single. Valentine took second on the throw. Joe Morgan then laced a
one-base hit resulting in a run. Morgan got a good lead and stole second.
Bake McBride came to the plate and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his
1st of the season) resulting in a mighty exciting win for Durham and the
26,030 home town fans in attendance. Durham rapped out 10 hits for the night.
Slaton(3-1) allowed 2 runs on the game. Bob Apodaca(0-1) was the losing
pitcher in relief. 'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball,
especially games like this, of course,' Jeff Smith offered. 'Everyone at the
stadium had a great time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
