TEAM RISP- Red Barons: 3 for 9 Rangers: 3 for 13
Texas Rangers broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 7 to 3
win over the Seattle Red Barons and sending their hometown fans home smiling.
Texas scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning when they
came up with 4 runs on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Gary Matthews
who brought a roar from the partisan Arlington Stadium fans when he
electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run. Both teams finished the
game with 9 hits.
The win was credited to Bob Welch(1-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no
runs. Victor Cruz(0-1) was the loser in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 2 hits
in 1 and 1/3 innings.
