At Fenway Park, the Boston fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Tom
Seaver(3-1) finally bested his Boston opposite, Jon Matlack(3-2), by the
score of 3 to 1.
Boston was unable to recover after Pittsburgh went ahead in the top of the 7th
inning scoring one runner. After an out was recorded, Willie Stargell
blasted a solo shot. One out later, Dave Rader was a strikeout victim,
unable to help out. Pittsburgh had a total of 7 hits for the game.
Jim Rooker earned the save, his 2nd. Matlack was given the loss. He pitched
7 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 walks.
