Larry Dierker went 9 strong innings at PCH Park where the Fort Wayne Cubs beat
the Boston Beaneaters by the score of 3 to 1.
Boston fell behind quickly as the Fort Wayne offense came through in the first
inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Lou Brock led off and keyed the rally
when he reached on an error. Jim Perry then threw a wild pitch. After an
out was recorded, Jim Wynn stepped in and he doubled. Denis Menke came up
and he tripled. That was all Dierker(1-0) needed. Fort Wayne had only 6
hits for the afternoon.
Perry(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings. 'Dierker just dominated us' losing pitcher Perry said. 'Hopefully
we can get to him the next time around'
