Felipe Alou hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI and Vicente Romo delivered 3 solid
innings as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Seattle Red Barons by a score
of 7 to 4 at Shea Stadium.
Los Angeles came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning scoring
3 runs using 3 hits. Dick McAuliffe started the inning off right when he
slapped a base-hit, and an error was also committed. Don Wert stepped into
the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Al
Spangler came to the plate and was walked intentionally. Romo came up and he
lashed a single bringing in a run. Alou stepped into the box and doubled
which was good for two more runs. Overall Los Angeles out-hit Seattle 10 to 5.
Romo(1-0) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. Eddie
Watt(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving
up 3 hits and no walks.
