Stan Bahnsen delivered 9 solid innings at Fenway Park as the Boston Beaneaters
beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7 to 0.
Boston went ahead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning when they scored 3
runs on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Roberto Clemente
who brought a roar from the partisan Fenway Park fans when he belted a
three-run homer (his 2nd of the season). Boston rapped out 11 hits for the
night.
Bahnsen(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. Dave McNally(0-1) suffered the
loss. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Bahnsen.
'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and
everything went well.'
