First baseman Mickey Mantle slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Dimaggio Field as
the San Francisco Golden Seals beat the Los Angeles Angels by the count of 3 to 2.
The San Francisco fans enjoyed the offense provided by Mantle. He smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 2nd inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 2nd
of the season) in the 7th inning. Hoyt Wilhelm was great in relief and
recorded his 1st save.
Joe Horlen(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2 runs.
Earl Wilson(0-1) was the loser. He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings.
