In an exciting finish the Portland Beavers pulled out a win over the Montreal
Expos by a score of 5 to 4 at Tiger Stadium.
The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Mike Greenwell slapped
a base-hit. Joe Carter stepped into the batter's box and he doubled giving
Portland the victory as 24,872 happy fans celebrated wildly. Portland
out-hit Montreal for the game, 12 hits to 7.
Mark Davis(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Juan
Agosto(0-1) was the loser in relief. He allowed 1 run and 2 hits in 2/3 of
an inning.
